John Di-mond

Over the years, many people have been in contact with me about the family tree and in 2020, Tony Dymond got in touch and told me that his family was connected through John Dimond on this page.....here is the message..

Since being in contact with Tony, and after more reasearch, I realised again that I had been researching the wrong family. This has meant altering the previous generations.. Luckily it still tied in with the earliest generations I found. I am indebted to Tony's information. I did ask if he had the bible still but it appears its no longer around...

John was baptised at Dunkeswell in 1772.

In 1815 he married Elizabeth Proctor and his brother and sister in law William and Sarah were in attendance, as they are down as witnesses.
Below is the Banns for John and Elizabeth, but it is a good illustration of how inaccurate the records can be. I've included details of the other recorded marriage John Lydman and Sarah Hill from above. In the Banns below, the 1st record shows them. But in the 2nd record of John Di-mond, Elizabeth Proctor is missing and Sarah Hill is written instead!! Clearly the Curate was preoccupied!
N.B. James shows up at Pontypridd on his Nephews Census Joseph in 1891
Below is the 1841 Census. John is 66 now, Elizabeth is 64 Joseph is living with them. He is 16! They are living at Rough Grey next to Fishponds cottage on the outskirts of Dunkeswell. Also living with them is their daughter Elizabeth now married to Sam Ewins and their children. It also appears that some of Elizabeths family (Proctors) are there too...
And just like John's younger brother William from the previous page, his trade is down as Carpenter on the later Census's.!
By the 1851 Census John was now 78, Elizabeth 76 and they had their Granddaughter staying with them Susan Ewins.
10 years on, the 1861 Census John was now 88, Elizabeth 85 and it was to be their final. The properties were now named by the families. So they lived at Dimonds Cottage!
In November of the following year, Elizabeth passed away. She was 88. Also on this record are other relations. William Diamond and Jane Diamond!
The day after Boxing Day 1866, John passed away at the Grand Age of 95! The record says he was residing at Hemyock village a few miles north of Dunkeswell.
Our Story continues on the next page with John and Elizabeths son Joseph...
That year their baby daughter Elizabeth was born and baptised. They had a number of children including James in 1818 and Joseph(where our story continues on next page) around 1824...
